ST. GEORGE CHURCH IN CARMICHAELS HOSTS DEANERY VESPERS

The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania hosted the Pittsburgh Deanery Lenten Vespers on the evening of April 10, 2022. Protonamesnik Sasa Nedic was the host priest.

Additional parishes in the Pittsburgh Deanery are in the Pennsylvania communities of Aliquippa, Johnstown, McKeesport, Midland, Monroeville, Pittsburgh, and Youngwood. Parishes in Steubenville, Ohio and the Mission parish in Fairmont, West Virginia are also in the Deanery.

His Grace Bishop Irinej is the Diocesan Bishop. Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Rade Merick is Episcopal Deputy. Protopresbyter George Veselinovich is Dean of the Pittsburgh Deanery.

Clergy serving in addition to Father Sasa Nedic on Sunday evening included Protopresbyter George Veselinovich, Protopresbyters-Stavrophores Dr. Rodney Torbic and Rajko Kosic, Protonamesnik Branislav Golic, Presbyters, Stefan Djoric, and Dragan Vuckovic, as well as Deacon Daniel August. Steven Kosic was the altar server. Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Stevo Rocknage, Protopresbyters Dejan Barac and Rumen Stoychev are also clergy of the Pittsburgh Deanery.

Father Sasa Nedic was joyful in heartily welcoming the numerous attendees from the various parishes of the Pittsburgh Deanery. This was the first Deanery Vespers in Carmichaels since the beginning of the pandemic. The St. George Choir under the direction of Sonia Janson provided the inspiring responses. Father Rodney Torbic gave the homily on the subject of Christian love.

Following the Vespers, the St. George Circle of Serbian Sisters - Kolo provided a nutritious Lenten meal for all the guests. St. George parishioners make an effort always to offer warm hospitality to their visitors. Stan Brozik is the Parish Executive Board President.

St. George Church traditionally has hosted the Lenten Vespers on the Fifth Sunday of Great Lent when the repentance of St. Mary of Egypt is greatly remembered. Repentance is a primary theme of Great Lent. The Deanery Vespers facilitate repentance and serve to nourish believers in the Lenten journey.

Thank God for all the faithful traveling to St. George Church on the evening of April 10, 2022. Thank God for the warm hospitality of St. George Church and the efforts of the parish priest, the choir, Kolo and parishioners.
