On the Fourth Sunday after Pascha, May 11, 2025, the parish of Greensboro celebrated its church’s patronal feast day - Slava!
In the words of the hymn to St. Basil, “The faithful people come from all directions,” and so it was that the faithful from several parishes gathered around the reliquary containing the omophorion of St. Basil to celebrate him and his miracles!
The Divine Liturgy was served by Protopresbyter Miladin Blagojević from Atlanta, and concelebrated by Protopresbyter Milan Katanić, Priest Srebrenko Vidaković from Charlotte, Greensboro parish priest Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Boris Čolović, and Hierodeacon Sava.
The Divine Liturgy was beautifully accompanied by the voices of our parish choir! After the prayer behind the ambo and the troparion to St. Basil, the festal bread (slavski kolač) was blessed in his honor and glory!
The hosts and sponsors (kumovi) of this year’s celebration were Mr. Goran Rašuo, President of the Greensboro Church Council, and Mrs. Marijana Rašuo, who, together with our parish council members and parishioners, have been working for years to ensure the growth and success of our parish. After the breaking of the festal bread, a portion was taken by Mr. Radenko Novak, who, along with his family, accepted the honor of being the sponsor for next year’s slava.
In the beautifully decorated parish hall, a festive slava meal of love was served. Traditional songs performed by Anđela Novak and Olga Elezović, as well as traditional dances by our folklore groups, further enriched this wonderful celebration.
The fellowship and joy lasted into the late afternoon, at which time the icon of St. Basil was handed over to Mr. Radenko Novak, where it will remain until next year’s celebration.
REJOICE, SAINT BASIL, PRIDE OF OUR PEOPLE!
