On February 26, 2025, the Feast Day of St. Simeon the Myrrh-flowing, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the United Nations and the General Consulate of the Republic of Serbia in New York, together with the Military Mission, organized a ceremonial reception at the UN Headquarters in New York City, marking Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia and Serbian Army Day.

In addition to representatives of permanent missions and military advisors at the UN, as well as UN officials, the reception was attended by representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church in New York and New Jersey, representatives of the City of New York, members of the New York consular corps, and the Serbian Diaspora. Among the distinguished guests were His Royal Highness Crown Prince Alexander, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and His Grace Bishop Irinej of Washington-New York and Eastern America.

At the beginning of the ceremonial reception, following the Serbian National Anthem, sung by Sofia Sretenović, a video message from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Marko Djuric, was shown in honor of Statehood Day. Guests were greeted by the Charge d'Affaires of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN, Mr Radomir Ilić, Colonel Miroslav Glišić, Senior Military Advisor at the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the UN, and General Consul Dr. Vladimir Božović.

In his address, General Consul Dr. Vladimir Božović emphasized the historical significance of the Statehood Day, pointing out that this holiday of statehood and historical heritage of Serbia is also an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the invaluable contribution of our Diaspora members to their homeland, as well as to the communities in which they have lived and created.

He particularly emphasized the achievements of the Serbian community in the United States, especially in New York, whose talent, dedication, and results have been permanently woven into the fabric of The City. He also expressed gratitude for the openness with which New York and the United States have welcomed our compatriots, enabling them to succeed personally and professionally in the best possible way.

Special thanks were extended to New York Mayor Eric Adams for the Proclamation declaring February 15th as Serbian-American Heritage Day in the city, which represents a strong expression of respect for the Serbian community and serves as a remarkable confirmation of the lasting ties between Serbia and the United States.

The reception paid tribute to the Statehood of Serbia, its rich historical heritage, its respected position in international relations, as well as its lasting partnership with the United States.

OБЕЛЕЖЕН ЈЕ ДАН ДРЖАВНОСТИ РЕПУБЛИКЕ СРБИЈЕ И ДАН ВОЈСКЕ СРБИЈЕ У СЕДИШТУ УЈЕДИЊЕНИХ НАЦИЈА

Стална мисија Р. Србије при УН и Генерални конзулат Републике Србије у Њујорку, су заједно са војним представништвом у Мисији, 26. о.м. организовали свечани пријем у седишту УН којим је обележен Дан државности Републике Србије, као и Дан Војске Србије.

Пријему су осим представника сталних мисија и војних саветника при УН, те званичника УН, присуствовали представници СПЦ у Њујорку и Њу Џерзију, представници града Њујорк, чланови њујоршког конзуларног кора и српске дијаспоре. Међу почасним гостима су били Његово Краљевско Височанство Прњстолонаследник Александар, Његово Високопреосвештенство Архиепископ Грчке Православне Архиепископије Америке Елпидофорос и Његово Преосвештенство Епископ Вашингтонско-њујоршки и источноамерички Иринеј.

На почетку свечаног пријема, након отпеване државне химе од стране Софије Сретеновић, емитован је видео снимак обраћања министра спољних послова Р. Србије Марка Ђурића поводом Дана државности. Госте су поздравили отправник послова Сталне мисије РС при УН Радомир Илић , пуковник Мирослав Глишић, виши војни саветник у Мисији РС при УН и генерални конзул др Владимир Божовић.

Генерални конзул др В. Божовић је у свом обраћању нагласио историјски значај Сретења, истичући да је овај празник државности и историјског наслеђа Србије такође прилика да се истакне и слави непроценљиви допринос припадника наше дијаспоре својој отаџбини, као и срединама у којима су живели и стварали.

Посебно је истакао достигнућа српске заједнице у Сједињеним Америчким Државама, нарочито у Њујорку, чији су таленат, посвећеност и резултати трајно уткани у биће овог града. Уједно је изразио захвалност за отвореност са којом су Њујорк и САД примили наше земљаке и омогућили им да се лично и професионално остваре на најбољи могући начин.

Посебну захвалност је упутио градоначелнику Њујорка Ерику Адамсу на Прокламацији којом је 15. фебруара проглашен Даном српско-америчког наслеђа у овом град, што представља снажан израз уважавања српске заједнице и служи као упечатљива потврда трајних веза између Србије и Сједињених Држава.

Пријемом је одата почаст државности Србије, њеном богатом историјском наслеђу, уважаеној позицији у међународним односима, као и трајном партнерству са Сједињеним Америчким Државама.
