Week three began on Sunday, July 21, with children arriving from Cleveland, Windsor, Pittsburgh, North Carolina and Washington. The group was small but energetic. We were blessed to have His Grace, Bishop Irinej with us on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. His Grace was able to integrate himself into the campers’ daily activities. The children did traditional camp activities.
On Tuesday they were treated to a lesson in making cookies. Teta Donna Stanojevic, master cookie decorator, showed the children techniques. The children made creative crosses, flip flops, suns, and ice cream cones. On Wednesday the children boarded the hay wagon for a beautiful evening ride. Divine Liturgy was served on Thursday, during which counselors and campers sang responses and songs. The week always ends with the much-anticipated trip to Waldameer Park and the camp dance. Many thanks to Fr. Nektarije Tesanovic, Fr. Srebrenko Vidakovic, and Fr. Vladimir Vranic for guiding us through prayers and classes each day and evening.
This week was a smaller group than usual, but it allowed everyone, both campers and counselors, to truly connect and get to know each other. The children learned more about their Orthodox faith and Serbian heritage. Shadeland friendships and memories last a lifetime, and new ones were created this week.
