On Sunday, June 5th, the day our Holy Orthodox Church commemorates and celebrates Pentecost, the Descent of the Holy Spirit on Apostles, the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Pittsburgh celebrated its Patronal Feast Day - Slava.

The Holy and Divine Hierarchical Liturgy was officiated by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America. His Grace was joined in concelebration by the Protopresbyter George Veselinovic, Cathedral Dean, together with Cathedral Protodeacon, David Manko, and Deacon Daniel August.

During His homily, our Father and Hierarch Bishop Irinej spoke about the Feast which commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the day of Pentecost. He reminded the faithful that this great feast day also celebrates the establishment of the Church through the preaching of the Apostles and the thousands who on that day believed in the Gospel message of salvation through Jesus Christ. He encouraged the faithful that as members of the Royal Priesthood, we have direct access and fellowship with God like our holy priests; we too are called to spread the faith just as His Apostles did.

At the conclusion of Divine Liturgy, the faithful participated in the festal procession around the church for Pentecost and the service of blessing of the Festal Bread - Slavski kolach and Wheat - Koljivo. Mr. and Mrs. Bozidar (Bob) and Nancy Topich, our beloved choir director and his devoted wife and fellow choir member, served as honorable Hosts - Kumovi. Accepting the honor for next year’s Slava were Mr. and Mrs. Mark Zivkovich.

Dedicated members of the church men’s club “Nikola Tesla,” St. Petka Kolo, cathedral choir, Sunday School board, and Holy Trinity parishioners worked together with love to prepare a beautiful meal served in traditional Serbian style at the St. Sava Picnic grounds for all the guests. University graduates, Jelena Winowich and Sava Topich, were recognized for their wonderful accomplishments.

Fr. George and our Holy Trinity Cathedral family thank His Grace for blessing and honoring the Holy Trinity Cathedral parish and the faithful with His presence. May God continue to bless our Father and Bishop Irinej, our Cathedral and its faithful and grant them many years!
