THE ENTRY OF THE THEOTOKOS INTO THE TEMPLE CELEBRATED IN ELIZABETH

On Sunday, December 4, 2022, the Great Feast of the Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey. His Grace was joined in concelebration by Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Zoran Radovic, Parish Priest, and Deacon Darko Tripkovic.

His Grace introduced his homily on the Feast of the Entrance, by emphasizing the Sunday Epistle, taken from Ephesians (4:4-6), which summons us to be united in one body and Spirit, for the “One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and in all”. We are asked to be one in the Body of Christ, which is His Church, as our salvation lies within the community of salvation. This is a reflection on the miracle of faith which took place during the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple. For as she entered the Holy of Holies, she herself became a temple into which Christ would enter. In like manner, we are all summoned at every Liturgy to receive His Body and Blood and become sacred vessels, indeed temples in which Christ will enter. Thus, manifesting Christ “over all and in all”.

Following the Prayer Behind the Ambo, the faithful of the St. George parish gathered around His Grace, Fr Zoran and his family, for the blessing of the Slava gifts of Wheat – Koljivo, wine and Festal Bread – Slavski kolach, to mark their personal and parish celebration of the Feast of the Entrance.
