BISHOP IRINEJ VISITS THE NEW BUILDING OF THE EMBASSY OF SERBIA IN WASHINGTON

On Wednesday, June 29th, His Grace Bishop Irinej visited the new building of the Embassy of Serbia in Washington, D.C. Through the efforts of His Excellency Ambassador Marko Djuric and his assistants, the Republic of Serbia acquired a spacious and representative building, merely a few blocks away from the White House.

Although, the new building is still under construction, Counselors Jovana Nedic and Radomir Ilic kindly arranged a personal tour for His Grace. At the completion of the visit, Bishop Irinej expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the new Embassy team in acquiring a dignified building in a highly prestigious area of the Capital and looked forward to its completion.

That afternoon, His Grace visited the building which Konstantin Fotic, a renowned diplomat of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, purchased for the residence of King Peter II. The residence is located in the diplomatic quarter of Washington, D.C. The building had fallen in disrepair during the previous decades. However, it is currently undergoing extensive renovation and remodeling through the efforts of Ambassador Djuric and his team. Upon completion, it will be the residence of Serbian Ambassadors to the United States of America in Washington, D.C.

Later that evening, Bishop Irinej met with Christian leaders in the Nation’s capital concerning international religious freedom and the plight of Christians throughout the world. In all, His Grace was accompanied by Protopresbyter Dr. Vasilije Vranic.
