On Saturday, November 6, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America visited the new headquarters of the Serb National Federation in Pittsburgh. The visit recognized and honored the SNF on its 120^th anniversary of service to the Serbian American community, in conjunction with the celebration of the 100^th anniversary of the founding of the first diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States and Canada, and gave His Grace the opportunity to bless the building to which the SNF recently relocated.

The Serb National Federation is the oldest and largest Serbian fraternal insurance organization in America, founded in 1901 in Pittsburgh as the Serbian Orthodox Federation 'Srbobran'. Over the years a number of other Serbian fraternal insurance organizations were founded in different parts of the country. In 1929 a number of these organizations merged to form the Serb National Federation. The original purpose of these organizations was to provide insurance protection for the immigrants, many of whom were employed in dangerous jobs in mines, steel mills and factories. As many of these were men without extended families in America, they turned to each other for mutual support and protection in case of injury or death. It continues to provide its members with valuable insurance and financial services. The SNF has also been a great support for the Serbian Orthodox Church and its parishes, has provided humanitarian support in times of war, disaster or need in the old homeland, awards scholarships to promising Serbian American youth to further their education, and regularly sponsors cultural and sports events to promote Serbian culture and traditions and to facilitate relationships among members of the Serbian American community. It also publishes the American Srbobran newspaper, the oldest such publication in America.

The SNF home office staff marked the occasion with an open house to welcome visitors to their new accommodations. Visitors received gift bags and were treated to hors d'oeuvres and a display highlighting the history and services of the fraternal organization.

His Grace Bishop Irinej arrived together with guest hierarch His Grace Bishop Saba of the Georgian Apostolic Orthodox Church. They were greeted with the traditional bread and salt and received by SNF President Dane Medich, who warmly welcomed them on behalf of all the members of the Federation. Bishop Irinej then performed the rite of the blessing of a new building or dwelling. The entire building was blessed with censing, the sprinkling of holy water, while His Grace anointed the walls with sanctified oil. Prayers were offered for the health, protection and well-being of the officers, office staff and all members of the Serb National Federation. His Grace gave an enlightening and meaningful explanation of the meaning and purpose of the entire blessing service. Following the blessing he lauded the SNF for its long history of service to the Serbian Orthodox people of America, and expressed the appreciation of the entire Serbian Orthodox Church for the support and cooperation the Federation has given the Church over the years, beginning with the founding of the first diocese of Serbian Orthodox Church on this continent. To mark the occasion His Grace presented SNF President Medich with a Hierarchical Grammaton honoring the SNF for its valuable services to Church and people. President Medich in turn thanked His Grace on behalf of the entire organization for his recognition and support. Finally, the “Many Years” was intoned and Their Graces blessed everyone present with holy water and anointing with the holy oil. A reception and fellowship followed the blessing service.

Његово Преосвештенство, Епископ источноамерички Г. Иринеј, посетио је у суботу, 6. новембра 2021.г, ново седиште Српског народног савеза у Питсбургу. Посетом је одато признање и почаст Савезу на дан његове 120. годишњице служења српско-америчкој заједници, а поводом обележавања 100. годишњице оснивања прве епархије Српске Православне Цркве у Сједињеним Америчким Државама и Канади, и освећења новог седишта Савеза.

Српски народни савез је најстарија и највећа српска удружена осигуравајућа организација у Америци, основана 1901. године у Питсбургу као Српски народни савез „Србобран“. Током година, у различитим деловима земље основан је низ других српских осигуравајућих организација. Године 1929. известан број ових организација спојио се у Српски народни савез. Првобитна сврха ових организација била је да обезбеде осигуравајућу заштиту имигрантима, од којих су многи били запослени на опасним пословима у рудницима, челичанама и фабрикама. Како су многи од њих били мушкарци без шире породице у Америци, једни другима су се обраћали за међусобну подршку и заштиту у случају повреде или смрти. Својим члановима Савез је пружао вредне услуге осигурања и финансијске услуге. Савез је такође био велика подршка Српској Православној Цркви и њеним парохијама, и давао је хуманитарну подршку у време рата, катастрофа или других потреба у отаџбини, затим, додељивао је стипендије перспективној српско-америчкој омладини за даље школовање, те редовно спонзорисао културне и спортске догађаје у циљу промовисања српске културе и традиције и за олакшавање односа међу припадницима српске америчке заједнице. Савез такође наставља да издаје и амерички новински лист ,,Србобран“, најстарију публикацију те врсте у Америци.

Особље канцеларије Српског народног савеза обележили су овај догађај који је био доступан јавности  да би на тај начин пожелели и указали добродошлицу посетиоцима у њиховом новом седишту. Посетиоци су том приликом на дар добили кесе са поклонима и почашћени предјелима, а уз то су добили и кратак приказ на коме је истакнут историјат и све услуге које организација нуди.

Његово Преосвештенство Епископ Г. Иринеј је у ново здање Савеза дошао заједно са допутовао је заједно са Његовим Преосвештенством Епископом Г. Сабом из Грузијске Апостолске Православне Цркве. На улазу у зграду дочекани су  са традиционалним хлебом и сољу, а примио их је председник Савеза г. Дане Медић, који их је у име свих чанова Савеза срдачно поздравио. Епископ Иринеј је потом извршио чин благосиљања новог здања. Нова зграда  освећена је кропљењем светом водицом и кађењем, а Епископ Иринеј помазао је зидове освећеним уљем. Узнесене су молитве за здравље, заштиту и благостање официра, службеног особља и свих припадника Српског народног савеза. Епископ Иринеј је указао на просветљујући  и садржајни смисао и сврху целокупног освећења здања. Након освећења, Епископ је похвалио Српски народни савез за дугу историју служења српском православном народу Америке,  и изразио захвалност целокупној Српској Православној Цркви за подршку и сарадњу коју је Савез годинама пружао Цркви од момента оснивања прве епархије Српске Православне Цркве на овом континенту. Због тога је Његово Преосвештенство председнику Српског народног савеза г. Медићу, уручио грамату за све вредне услуге Цркви и народу које је дао Српски народни савез. Председник Медић се у име целог Савеза захвалио Епископу Иринеју на његовом признању и подршци. Након што је хор отпевао „Многаја љета“  архијереји су присутне покропили светом водицом и помазали светим уљем. Након освећења, уследио је свечани пријем.

Епархија источноамеричка од срца честита Српском народном савезу за пуних 120 година верног служења српском православном народу и радује се њиховом будућем раду на корист и благостање Српске Православне Цркве и православног српског нарона на овом континенту.
