The long anticipated project of frescoing the interior of the recently erected and consecrated church, dedicated to St. Simeon the Myrrhflowing, in Charlotte, North Carolina has been initiated with the blessings of His Grace Bishop Irinej. The church of St. Simeon, together with its chapel of St. Arsenius of Srem, is a constituent body of the St. Petersburg Deanery, of the Diocese of Eastern America.

According to Fr. Nemanja Tesic, parish priest and lecturer at the St. Sava School of Theology in Libertyville, Iconographer Filip Subotic has been selected to adorn the interior of this, one of the newest sanctuaries of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the United States of America. At present work has commenced on the expansive central dome, and will continue throughout the balance of the church until the entire interior is completed. The blessing of the frescos is anticipated in 2019.

The word iconography (εικονογραφία) means "icon or image (εικών) writing (γραφή)". As such, icons are transfigured representations of their prototype, offering the faithful a window to the Kingdom of Heaven. According to St Gregory the Great, churches are frescoed, so the faithful may learn to "read the walls of the church". For this reason, Orthodox churches, in accordance with Canonical Tradition, are always adorned with frescoes.
