Bishop’s Patronal Feast Day celebrated in Belgrade

This year, due to the early date of Pascha, the Holy Assembly of Bishops convened in Belgrade substantially earlier than customary. As such, His Grace Bishop Irinej celebrated his family Patronal Feast Day, the Holy Great-martyr and Victory-bearer George, in Serbia’s Capital on Sunday, May 6, 2018. His Grace Bishop Grigorije of Zahum-Herzegovina, subsequently Bishop-elect of Frankfurt and All Germany, cut the Festal Bread and wished his brother hierarch many years of health and happiness, and that he continue to celebrate in the circle of family, clergy, faithful and friends for many years to come. Bishop Irinej was joined by his young Godson, Uros Trbovich from Germany, as co-host in turning the festal bread, which, together with the wheat, was lovingly prepared by the sisters of Vavedenje Monastery in Belgrade, where His Grace served as a young hieromonk, while teaching at the Theological Faculty and as an advisor to the Holy Synod of Bishops on interreligious and international affairs. Among his numerous guests were Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine, Princess Elizabeth, and Prince Mihailo and Princess Ljubica, together with the Bishop’s family, members of the clergy, diplomatic corps, educators, entrepreneurs, artists, writers, and numerous others from various walks of life, all of whom Bishop Irinej has known for many years, both living in Belgrade and from his various postings and representational work throughout the world.
