Parish Anniversary in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania

Carmichaels, PA - Faithful of the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania gathered on Sunday, October 30, 2016 to celebrate the Divine Liturgy and the parish Anniversary.

The St. George Church was consecrated on October 31, 1954 and has continued to serve the faithful until the present. During the Divine Liturgy on October 30 the living and departed faithful were remembered in prayer.

The Anniversary banquet and program were held at Dolf’s in Masontown as has been the practice since 1998. The Mayor of Masontown, Chief of Police and representatives of local businesses joined the faithful and friends in attending.

Members of the Parish Executive Board participated in the program including President-Stan Brozik, Vice-President-John Williams, Treasurer-Felecia Williamson, and Financial Secretary-Andrea Janson. Sonia Janson represented the St. George Choir and Kolo. Millicent Mitzie Hunchuck was present representing the Parish Nurse’s Office.

Attorney Linda Chambers regularly is the featured speaker at the Anniversary banquet. This year she spoke on important documents necessary as the end of life approaches.

Readings from the lives of the saints is normal practice at each parish dinner. This year the readings were from the writings of St. John Chrysostom, the Desert Fathers and St. Nikolai Velimirovic.

Parishioners and friends of the parish doing readings included:  Mary Jo Krivitsky, Mildred Bezjak, Paulette Radock, Dr. Scott and Sara Newton, Rodney, Darren, Ryan, Kyle and Jesse Torbic, Milosh Serb Krewasky,  Lt. Col. Willie Spens, Dr. Richard Romanos and Blinda Pierce, and Stojan Raulic.

Very Reverend Rumen Stoychev came from Holy Ascension Serbian Orthodox Church in Youngwood, Pennsylvania. The St. George Church and Holy Ascension Church in Youngwood have a long standing close relationship.

God has bountifully blessed the St. George Church through the years.

This year the Anniversary celebration reflected increased attendance with a number of children and youths present.

Thank God for the blessings throughout the years. Thank God for the hierarchs and clergy serving the parish. Thank God for the founders, faithful parishioners and friends of the St. George Church.
