St George Church Slava

Carmichaels, PA - His Grace Bishop Dr. MITROPHAN, Diocesan Bishop of Eastern America, came to St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania on Sunday, May 8, 2016 for the celebration of the parish Slava. 

His Grace officiated at the Divine Liturgy including the Blessing of the Slava Kolac’, Koljivo and the Festal Procession. Subdeacon Anthony Miralles was the Slava Kum.  Sonia Janson directed the St. George Choir.

Prior to the Divine Liturgy, Paulette Radock read the Third and Sixth Hours. The Slava dinner and program were held in the church hall following the Divine Liturgy.

The parish was greatly honored with having His Grace Bishop Dr. MITROPHAN  for the Divine Liturgy and Slava program. In addition to His Grace speaking at the program , the parish Executive Board had the opportunity to speak.

Executive Board members include President-Stan Brozik; Vice-President -John Williamson; Treasurer-Felecia Williamson; Financial Secretary-Andrea Janson; and Secretary-Aaron Carson.

Kolo and Choir President Sonia Janson, Parish Nurse Practitioner Millicent Hunchuck and Parish Attorney Linda Chambers also spoke at the dinner. The St. George Slava always includes readings from St .Nikolai’s(Velimirovic) writings.

Readers at the dinner included Rich and Linda Porter, Djelosh Milosevich and Mildred Bezjak. Kum Anthony Miralles, accompanied by his wife Madeline, was honored with an icon and recognized for his faithfulness to St. George Church.

The Slava was abundantly filled with the joy of Christ’s Resurrection and appreciation to St. George the Greatmartyr. Increased attendance multiplied the joy. God blessed the day with beautiful weather.

The St. George Church is always strengthened and inspiration increases when His Grace Bishop Dr. MITROPHAN comes to the parish. His Grace is a successor to the Holy Apostles.

The Slava is a time to celebrate and give thanks to God. God has blessed the St. George Serbian Church in Carmichaels for more than sixty years. This year’s Slava celebration was multi- blessed by God.
