Slava Celebrated at St George in Carmichaels, PA

Carmichaels, PA - The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania was consecrated in October 1954.  Slava’s have been celebrated in the parish church continuously since that time.

This year the parish Slava was celebrated on Sunday, May 4, 2014. During the Divine Liturgy with the Litya, the procession proceeded around the church three times. God provided good weather for the procession to take place.

The Slava Kolac and Koljivo were blessed. Prayers were offered for the living and departed of the parish.  The St. George Choir under the direction of Sonia Janson provided the responses. Felicia Williamson was the honored Kuma.

The Slava dinner and program followed the Divine Liturgy. Program participants in addition to the honored Kuma included Stan Brozik, Sonia Janson, John Williamson, Millicent Mitzie Hunchuck, Andrea Janson, Djelosh Jerry Milosevich, Maria Djonovich, Aaron Carson and Carlos Godbey.

The program consisted of remarks from the Very Rev.Stavrofor Lt.Col.Adam Yonitch, the officers of the St.George Executive Board, the Choir and Kolo and Parish Nurse Practitioner.

Readings by parishioners added to the content of the program.  Attorney Linda Chambers gave a featured talk on the theme: “Elements of Safe Communities.”

Attendees also included parishioners from Pennsylvania parishes in Youngwood, Monroeville, and Pittsburgh and Fairmont, W.Va. Friends of the parish from the immediate area also attended.

Thank God for continuing to bless the St. George Church. Thank God for the faithful parishioners and friends of the parish.
