HOLY HIERARCHICAL DIVINE LITURGY ON THE FEAST OF THE EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS

On the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, His Grace Bishop of Washington-New York and Eastern America Irinej served the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on this great feast in the packed Church of Saint Sava in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Concelebrating with His Grace were the Very Reverend Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Đokan Majstorović, the Very Reverend Protopresbyter Milan Jovanović, Deacon Milan Damljanović, and Deacon Bojan Gligorеvić.

Before the beginning of the service, His Grace brought the Holy Cross into the center of the church for the faithful to venerate, following the hierarchical rite of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, known as the Satnice.

In his address to the large gathering of faithful, the Bishop emphasized the twofold dimension of today's feast: first, the discovery of the Holy Cross at Golgotha by Empress Helena in the fourth century; and second, the return of the Holy Cross from Persia to Jerusalem by Emperor Heraclius in the seventh century.

His Grace then emphasized that, for us Orthodox Christians, the celebration of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a source of transformation—the paradox of the Cross: that which the world sees as weakness becomes strength; that which was considered foolishness is recognized as wisdom; suffering becomes a source of the joy of life; and death is destroyed through Christ's death, granting life to the world.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Irinej congratulated the gathered faithful on the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross (Krstovdan). Father Dragan thanked the Bishop for his blessing and invited everyone present to remain for lunch in the church hall.

The joy of the feast continued in the church hall, where a communal meal of love was served to all those present by the hardworking sisters.

This great feast will remain a beautiful memory for everyone who was present.

May the Lord bless us all, that we may celebrate Christ crucified on the Cross and venerate His Holy Cross. Amen!
