On the Feast of the Holy Great Martyr Prince Lazarus and all the Holy Serbian Martyrs—Vidovdan—the faithful of St. John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox Church in Paterson gathered in prayerful remembrance to commemorate a day that has, for centuries, stood as the foundation of the Serbian people’s spiritual identity and faithfulness to Christ.
On Saturday, June 27, a Parastos (Memorial Service) was served for all the Kosovo heroes who laid down their lives for the Faith, freedom, and their homeland. The service was officiated by Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Đokan Majstorović and Deacon Vladimir Srbljak. Nearly fifty faithful participated in the prayerful gathering, offering prayers for the repose of all those who suffered and giving thanks to the Lord for the example of the Holy Great Martyr Prince Lazar, whose choice of the Heavenly Kingdom continues to inspire generations of Orthodox Christians.
Following the Parastos, a cultural program was held. Writers Milutin Srbljak and Ilija Saula presented selections from their literary works, while the youngest participant, Petar Jevrić, warmly recited the poem “Vidovdan, the Light of My Eyes,” reminding those present that love for the Orthodox Faith and the Serbian people is nurtured from the earliest years of life.
The program concluded with the musical-poetic presentation “Vidovdan – A Covenant That Endures,” written by Deaconess Bojana Srbljak. Presented by Protopresbytera Mirjana Majstorović, Anastasija Srbljak, Marija Srbljak, Jovana Srbljak, and Deaconess Bojana Srbljak, the program wove together prayerful reflections, prose, and songs inspired by Kosovo, bearing witness to the truth that the Kosovo Covenant is not merely a remembrance of history, but a living Tradition of the Church, continually renewed through faith, sacrifice, love, and faithfulness to Christ.
On Sunday, following the Festal Divine Liturgy and the Moleben service, the presentation was offered once again during the Vidovdan fellowship meal (Agape) in the parish hall, allowing many more parishioners to experience its message. Fellowship continued around a bountiful Lenten meal, lovingly prepared by the faithful, and was further enriched by the beautiful accordion music of our parishioner, Dejan Milanović.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the members of the Church Board for their dedicated efforts in organizing this year’s Vidovdan celebration, as well as to the devoted parish sisters who lovingly prepared the Lenten meal. Their labor is yet another witness that the life of the Church is built not only through the Divine Services, but also through selfless service, Christian love, and the shared commitment of the faithful.
This year’s observance of Vidovdan at St. John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox Church once again affirmed that the Kosovo Covenant remains alive among Serbs in the Diaspora. Gathered in prayer, united through the spoken word and Christian fellowship, the faithful bore witness that the covenant of the Holy Prince Lazar is, above all, a covenant of faithfulness to Christ—preserved not merely by remembering the past, but by living the life of the Church, passing the Orthodox Faith on to future generations, and remaining steadfast in the virtues of the Holy Gospel.

Поводом празника Светог великомученика кнеза Лазара и свих светих српских мученика – Видовдана, при Храму Светог Јована Крститеља у Патерсону верни народ се сабрао на молитвено сећање и достојанствено обележавање дана који вековима представља темељ српског духовног опредељења и верности Христу.
У суботу, 27. јуна, на српском имању служен је помен свим косовским јунацима који су своје животе принели на олтар вере, слободе и отаџбине. Помен су служили протојереј-ставрофор Ђокан Мајсторовић и ђакон Владимир Србљак. У молитвеном сабрању учествовало је око педесет верника, узносећи молитве за покој душа свих пострадалих и благодарећи Господу што је српском народу подарио пример Светога великомученика кнеза Лазара, чији избор Царства небеског остаје непролазни путоказ сваком поколењу.
Након помена уследио је културно-уметнички програм. Своје књижевне радове казивали су књижевници Милутин Србљак и Илија Саула, док је најмлађи учесник програма, Петар Јеврић, са посебном топлином рецитовао песму „Видовдане, мој очињи виде“, подсетивши присутне да се љубав према вери и роду усађује од најранијих дана.
Завршни део програма представљао је музичко-поетски приказ „Видовдан – завет који траје“, чији је аутор била ђаконица Бојана Србљак. У извођењу протинице Мирјане Мајсторовић, Анастасије Србљак, Марије Србљак, Јоване Србљак и ђаконице Бојане Србљак, кроз молитвену реч, прозу и духовне песме о Косову посведочена је истина да косовски завет није тек историјска успомена, већ живо предање Цркве које се непрестано обнавља у вери, жртви, љубави и верности Христу.
У недељу је, након празничне Свете Литургије и молебана, а у оквиру видовданске трпезе љубави у црквеној сали, ова драматизација поново изведена, пруживши и осталим парохијанима прилику да је чују. Уз богату посну трпезу, припремљену са љубављу, настављено је братско заједништво у радости празника, које је додатно оплемењено звуцима хармонике нашег парохијана Дејана Милановића.
Искрена захвалност упућује се члановима Црквеног одбора на труду у организацији прославе, као и вредним сестрама које су припремиле богату посну трпезу.
Овогодишње обележавање Видовдана при Храму Светог Јована Крститеља показало је да је косовски завет и данас жив међу Србима у расејању. Окупљени око молитве, уметничке речи и братске трпезе љубави, верни су још једном посведочили да је завет Светога кнеза Лазара завет верности Христу и да се не чува само сећањем на прошлост, већ животом у Цркви, преношењем вере млађим поколењима и истрајавањем у јеванђелским врлинама.
