The all-faithful procession in the glory of God and in honor of Saint Basil of Ostrog, the heavenly patron of the city of Nikšić, proceeded this evening through the streets of the city beneath Trebjesa Hill.
The St. Basil procession, which began in front of the Cathedral of Saint Basil of Ostrog, was led by Their Eminences: Archbishop of Iași and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina Kyr Theophan of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Kyr Joanikije, Archbishop and Metropolitan of Budimlje and Nikšić Kyr Metodije, Archbishop of Mostar-Trebinje and Metropolitan of Zahumlje-Herzegovina and the Littoral Kyr Dimitrije; and Their Graces: Bishop of Washington-New York and Eastern America Kyr Irinej, and Bishop of Dioklia Kyr Paisije, together with numerous clergy and hieromonks, and with the participation of several thousand faithful. Among those present were Mr. Marko Kovačević, President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Milica Lalatović Žižić, President of the Municipal Assembly of Nikšić, as well as many representatives of the public, social, and cultural life of Montenegro and the surrounding region.
In the procession were carried the pillow and epitrachelion of Saint Basil of Ostrog, as well as a portion of the relics of Saint Anna, his mother, and a portion of the relics of the Prevlaka Martyrs. Following the conclusion of the prayerful procession, these relics were brought out for the faithful to venerate in the cathedral church dedicated to this great pleaser of God and ecumenical wonderworker.
At the city’s Sloboda Square, the participants in the cross-bearing procession were addressed by His Eminence Metropolitan Metodije, who congratulated all on the feast and greeted the brother hierarchs and all participants in the procession, especially Metropolitan Theophan, who brought from Iași the blessings of Saint Paraskeva, who guards the Bjelopavlići valley and, together with Saint Basil, has watched over all the people of these lands for centuries.
The blessings of Saint Anna, the mother of Saint Basil of Ostrog, were brought to the participants in the procession from Mrkonjići by His Eminence Metropolitan of Zahumlje-Herzegovina Kyr Dimitrije. According to his words, these gatherings on the feast of Saint Basil, both in Ostrog and in Nikšić, are in fact a continuation of that walk toward the Promised Land, toward the Kingdom of God, under the patronage and protection of the Wonderworker of Ostrog. Archbishop Dimitrije of Mostar-Trebinje called upon those gathered to ask themselves from whom Saint Basil received the steadfastness and breadth of his heart, from whom he received the firmness and strength of his faith. He invited all to come the following day to Mrkonjići, where the first liturgical commemoration and anniversary of the translation of Saint Anna, the holy and blessed mother of Saint Basil, into the Diptychs of the Saints of the Orthodox Church, would be solemnly celebrated.
The St. Basil procession concluded the cultural-spiritual manifestation “Days of Saint Basil of Ostrog,” which began on May 7 under the organization of the Diocese of Budimlje and Nikšić, the Municipality of Nikšić, and Matica Srpska – Society of Members in Montenegro. The St. Basil procession in Nikšić has been held since 1996 as a sign of love and gratitude toward the saint who helps, heals, and consoles all those who call upon him with love, and in remembrance of the day when the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog visited Nikšić.
The feast of Saint Basil of Ostrog—the patronal feast of the cathedral church and of the city beneath Trebjesa—was previously celebrated in the cathedral church in Nikšić, where the Divine Liturgy was served by His Grace Bishop of Dioklia Kyr Paisije, who together with the clergy, the leaders of the Municipality of Nikšić, and the faithful people, blessed and broke the festal slava breads.

Свенародна литија у славу Божију и у част Светог Василија Острошког Чудотворца, небеског покровитеља града Никшића, прошла је улицама града под Требјесом.
Световасилијевску литију, која је кренула испред Саборног храма Светог Василија Острошкога, предводили су високопреосвећена господа: Архиепископ Јашија и Митрополит молдавски и буковински г. Теофан из Румунске православне цркве, Архиепископ цетињски и Митрополит црногорско-приморски Јоаникије, Архиепископ и Митрополит будимљанско-никшићки Методије, Архиепископ мостарско-требињски и Митрополит захумско-херцеговачки и стонско-приморски Димитрије, преосвећена господа епископи: вашингтонско-њујоршки и источноамерички Иринеј и диоклијски Пајсије, бројно свештенство и свештеномонаштво уз учешће више хиљада верника, међу којима су били г. Марко Ковачевић, председник Општине Никшић, председница СО Никшић Милица Лалатовић Жижић, бројни преставници јавног, друштвеног и културног живот Црне Горе и региона.
У литији је ношен јастук и епитрахиљ Светог Василија Острошкога, затим део моштију Свете Ане, његове мајке, као и део моштију Превлачких мученика, који су по завршетку молитвеног хода изнети верном народу на поклоњење у Саборном храму посвећеном овом великом угоднику Божијем и васељенском чудотворцу.
На градском Тргу слободе учесницима крсног входа обратио се Митрополит Методије, који је честитао празник и поздравио браћу архијереје и све учеснике литије, а посебно Митрополита Теофана који је из Јашија донео благослове Свете Петке која чува Бјелопавлићку долину и заједно са Светим Василијем цео народ на овим просторима вековима.
Благослове Свете Ане, мајке Светога Василија Острошког, учесницима литије из Мркоњића донео је Високопреосвећени Митрополит захумско-херцеговачки г. Димитрије. По његовим речима ова сабрања о празнику Светог Василија и у Острогу и Никшићу заправо су продужење тог хода ка земљи обећаној, ка Царству Божијем под покровом и заштитом Острошког чудотворца. Архиепископ мостарско-требињски Димитрије је позвао сабране да се запитају од кога је Свети Василије добио постојаност и ширину свога срца, од кога је добио стаменост и силу своје вере и позвао све да сутра дођу у Мркоњиће где ће се свечано прославити први литугијски спомен и годишњица од уношења Свете и блажене Ане, мајке Светог Василија, у Диптихе светих Православне цркве.
Световасилијевском литијом завршена је културно-духовна манифестација „Дани Светог Василија Острошког“, која је почела 7. маја у организацији Епархије будимљанско-никшићке, Општине Никшић и Матице српске – Друштво чланова у Црној Гори. Световасилијевска литија у Никшићу се одржава од 1996. године у знак љубави и благодарности према светитељу који помаже, исцељује, теши све оне који га са љубављу призивају, а у спомен на дан када су мошти Светог Василија Острошког походиле Никшић. Празник Светог Василија Острошког Чудотворца – слава Саборног храма и града под Требјесом, претходно је прослављен у Саборној цркви у Никшићу, где је Свету литургију служио Његово преосвештенство Епископ диоклијски г. Пајсије, који је са свештенством, челницима Општине Никшић и верним народом, освештао и преломио славске колаче.
