The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ — the Feast of feasts — is the triumph of faith and life.

Out of immeasurable love for mankind, our Lord Jesus Christ accepted suffering, the Cross, and death, in order to deliver humanity from the bondage of sin and death.

He descended into the depths of Hades — into the silence where ages had faded — and there, where man had been held captive, He opened the gates of life.

And then something happened that had never happened before:
for the first time, the Sun of Righteousness shone into the darkness of Hades, and the darkness could not overcome the light;
for the first time, the eternal Light illumined those who sat in darkness and the shadow of death;
for the first time, the Infinite God entered the place where man had been imprisoned.

And the gates of Hades were shattered like the rotten doors of an old prison,
and the chains of death were broken like cobwebs before the face of the Living God,
and the human race, which lay in darkness, was illumined by His light.

And those enslaved by death, bound in despair, sang for the first time the song of life —
not an earthly song, but a heavenly one,
the song of Christ Who conquers death and grants life.

Thus the Lord destroyed the power of death and granted freedom to all humanity.

And the Eighth Day dawned — a day without evening,
a day that knows no sunset,
a day into which man is called to enter,
to awaken from the sleep of this passing life
into the reality of eternity — into the Kingdom of Heaven.

On that holy night, the earth seemed to bow gently to heaven, and heaven stooped down toward man. Love was revealed in the Cross, and life conquered death.

A special moment of the festal night came when the ancient Paschal call was heard:
“Come, receive the light from the unwaning Light, and glorify Christ, Who is risen from the dead!”

And just as a flame is passed from candle to candle without being diminished, but rather multiplied, so too the grace of God is poured out among the faithful, illumining faces and enlightening hearts.

That light, which does not fade, is Christ Himself — the Light of the world — Who enlightens every person and gathers all into one.

In the joy of that light, the faithful people of God gather together, participating in the divine services and in the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist. Through the Holy Eucharist, the faithful confirm their faith, hope, and love, approaching Holy Communion and uniting themselves with the Risen Lord.

In Holy Communion, the faithful receive not something, but Someone — Life Himself, Victory Himself, the Risen Lord Himself — becoming true participants in His victory, in the Resurrection and in eternal life.

In the spirit of that light, every community is called to unity, peace, and love, to carry into their homes what has been celebrated in the church — as a living witness of the Resurrection.

The joyful greeting resounded among the gathered faithful:
“Christ is Risen!”
to which came the response:
“Indeed He is Risen!”

May this Paschal joy, which does not pass away, remain alive in the hearts of the faithful as a pledge of eternal life.

Let us pray to the Risen Lord that the light we have received and the joy we have experienced may not be extinguished, but may ever burn in our hearts, strengthening us, enlightening us, and guiding us on the path of salvation — unto many blessed years.

Christ is Risen!

Васкрсење Господа нашег Исуса Христа — Празник над празницима јe торжество вере и живота.

Господ наш Исус Христос, из неизмерне љубави према човеку, примио је страдање, Крст и смрт, да би човека избавио од ропства греха и смрти.

Сишао је у дубину Ада — у тишину где су се векови гасили — и тамо, где је човек био заробљен, отворио врата живота.

И тада се догодило оно што никада до тада није било:

први пут је у таму Ада засијало Сунце правде,

и тама не могаде обузети светлост;

први пут је вечна Светлост обасјала оне који су седели у тами и сенци смртној;

први пут је Неограничени Бог ушао тамо где је човек био заточен.

И врата Ада бише разваљена као трула врата старе тамнице,

и ланци смрти покидани као паучина пред лицем Живога Бога,

и род људски, који је лежао у тами, би обасјан Његовом светлошћу.

И робље смрти, заточено у безнађу, први пут запева песму живота —

не песму земаљску, него песму небеску,

песму Христа Који побеђује смрт и дарује живот.

Тако је Господ разрушио силу смрти и даровао слободу целом роду људском.

И освану Дан осми — дан који нема вечера,

дан који не познаје залазак,

дан у који је човек позван да уђе,

да се пробуди из сна пролазног живота

у стварност вечности — у Царство небеско.

У тој светој ноћи, земља као да се тихо поклонила небу, а небо се сагнуло над човеком. Љубав се показала у Крсту, а живот је победио смрт.

Посебан тренутак празничне ноћи био је када се зачуо древни пасхални позив:

„Приђите и примите светлост од незалазне Светлости, и прославите Христа Васкрслог из мртвих!”

И као што се пламен преноси са свеће на свећу, а не умањује се, него се умножава, тако се и благодат Божија разлива међу вернима, обасјавајући лица и просветљујући срца.

Та светлост, која не пролази, јесте сам Христос — Светлост света, Који просвећује свакога човека и сабира све у једно.

У радости те светлости сабира се верни народ Божији, узевши учешћа у богослужењу и у Тајни Свете Евхаристије. Верни народ потврђује своју веру, наду и љубав Светом Евхаристијом, приступајући Светом Причешћу и сједињујући се са Васкрслим Господом.

У Светом Причешћу верни су примили не нешто, него Некога — сам Живот, саму Победу, самог Васкрслог Господа, постајући истински учесници у Његовој победи — у Васкрсењу и у животу вечном.

У духу те светлости, свака заједница је призвана на јединство, мир и љубав, да оно што је прослављено у храму понесе у своје домове — као живо сведочанство Васкрсења.

Радосни поздрав одјекнуо је међу сабранима:

„Христос Васкрсе!”

на који је одговорено:

„Ваистину Васкрсе!”

Нека та радост Васкрсења, која не пролази, остане да живи у срцима верних као залог живота вечнога.

Помолимо се Васкрслом Господу да светлост коју смо примили и радост коју смо доживели не угасну, него да непрестано горе у срцима нашим, да нас укрепљују, просвећују и воде путем спасења — на многа и блага љета.

Христос Васкрсе!
