A PASCHAL ARCHPASTORAL MESSAGE
TO ALL OUR BELOVED FAITHFUL OF THE SAINT SAVA CATHEDRAL PARISH OF CLEVELAND
This is the day of resurrection.
Let us be illumined by the feast.
Let us embrace each other.
Let us call “Brothers” even those that hate us, and
forgive all by the resurrection, and so let us cry:
Christ is risen from the dead,
Trampling down death by death,
And upon those in the tombs bestowing life.

CHRIST IS RISEN!
Most Beloved, as we celebrate the Feast of Feasts, Christ’s Holy Resurrection from the dead, every one of us, who lives in Christ, becomes a communicant of His Resurrection. Some, from within, as the courageous Myrrhbearers before the Empty Tomb, who, after witnessing the harrowing and awe-inspiring Mystery of the Cross – wherein the Creator of all willingly gave Himself over to suffering and death – will be rewarded as they were, in first hearing from Him, the Risen Lord, this salutation: "Rejoice!" (cf, Paschal Kontakion).
Yet others, from the outside, likened unto the Holy Apostles, who were hidden away safely out of fear in the Upper Room, until the news of Christ’s Resurrection was given to them by the Myrrhbearing Women. Then, overcome with immense joy, the foremost of the Apostles, Peter, ran with great haste to the Empty Tomb to see for himself; while the Beloved Disciple, John, did likewise outrunning Peter. For Christ is truly risen as He foretold, and death is no more! The disciples were also comforted by the Risen Lord, Who, stood among them and said to them: “Peace be with you!” (John 20:19).
The Pascha of our Lord belongs equally to those both inside and outside, as both joy and peace – the Lord’s Peace must be the hallmarks of every Christian. For when the Disciples received their Great Commission to “go into all the world and preach the Gospel to the whole creation” (John 16:15), many wondered how people would recognize them as His Disciples. “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).
This response, reverberating throughout the ages, tells us today, as the Disciples before us, that people will know us by our love through the purposeful, sacrificial, and unconditional love – Agape, shown to one another, not merely through words, but through action as well. For such Divine Love, we are summoned in the Liturgy, to “love one another that with one accord we may confess” – transcending all divisions and bringing peoples together surmounting all possible barriers.
In like manner, we must all remember our Lord’s clear admonition to Peter, who drew a sword to defend Christ during his arrest as He was being led away to ‘trial’: “Put your sword back into its place; for all who take the sword will perish by the sword” (Matt. 26:52). Are not the swords of today, among all else, words, mostly empty and false, hurled into the vast emptiness of social media and the internet? Words, our words, which will await all of us on the Day of Judgement. For this reason, when we fast, we are summoned to fast even by our words, which can and will destroy more than the sword.
Therefore, Beloved, let us all without exception heed the magnificent words, indeed summons of the Catechetical Homily of our Father among the Saints, John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople (+407), which is read in every Orthodox church at the conclusion of Paschal Matins and in preparation for the Holy Paschal Liturgy, precisely as an open invitation for the participation of all in the Paschal Liturgy:
“If there are any who are devout and love God,
let them enjoy this beautiful and radiant feast of triumph! […]
For the Lord, Who is gracious,
will accept the last as well as the first.
He gives rest to those who come at the eleventh hour
just as He does to those who work from the first hour.
He is merciful to those who come last,
even while He cares for the first ones.
He gives gifts to each of them […]
INDEED, HE IS RISEN!

ВАСКРШЊА АРХИПАСТОРСКА ПОРУКА
СВИМ НАШИМ ДРАГИМ ВЕРНИЦИМА ПАРОХИЈЕ
ПРИ САБОРНОМ ХРАМУ СВЕТОГА САВЕ У КЛИВЛЕНДУ
Ово је дан Васкрсења;
Нека нас Празник обасја небеском светлошћу!
Загрлимо једни друге с љубављу;
назовимо „браћом“ чак и оне који нас мрзе,
опростимо свима Васкрсења ради, и једним срцем узвикнимо:
Христос васкрсе из мртвих, смрћу смрт победи,
и онима у гробовима живот дарова!

ХРИСТОС ВАСКРСЕ!
Љубљени, док прослављамо Празник над празницима – свето Васкрсење Христово из мртвих – сваки од нас који живи у Христу постаје причасник Његове победе над смрћу. Попут храбрих Жена Мироносица пред Празним Гробом, које су, после страдања и Тајне Крста - где се Творац света добровољно предаде патњи и смрти - биле удостојене да прве чују радосни поздрав Васкрслог Господа: „Радујте се“, и ми смо позвани да ту радост носимо у срцима својим (Из Пасхалног канона).
Други пак, налик Светим Апостолима, пребиваху у страху затворени у Горњој соби, док им Мироносице не донесоше благу вест. Тада, разгореван ревношћу, први међу Апостолима, Петар, похита ка Гробу да се сâм увери; а љубљени ученик, Јован, претече га. Заиста, васкрсе Христос, као што је прорекао, и смрти више нема! И ученици се утешише јављењем Васкрслога Господа, Који, кроз затворена врата улазећи, стаде међу њих и рече им: „Мир вам!“ (Јован 20,19).
Васкрсење Господа нашег Исуса Христа подједнако припада онима и унутра и споља, као и радост и мир - Господњи мир морају бити обележја сваког хришћанина. Јер када су ученици примили свој Велики задатак да „иду по целом свету и проповедају Јеванђеље целом створењу“ (Јн. 16:15), многи су се питали како ће их људи препознати као Његове ученике. „По томе ће сви знати да сте моји ученици, ако имате љубав међу собом“ (Јн.13:35).
Овај одговор, који одјекује кроз векове, говори нам данас, као ученицима пре нас, да ће нас људи познавати по нашој љубави кроз сврсисходну, жртвену и безусловну љубав – Агапе, коју показујемо једни другима, не само речима, већ и делима. За такву Божанску љубав, позвани смо у Литургији да „љубимо једни друге да бисмо једнодушно исповедали“, превазилазећи све поделе и окупљајући људе превазилазећи све могуће баријере.
На сличан начин, сви морамо да се сетимо јасне опомене нашег Господа Петру, који је извукао мач да брани Христа током његовог хапшења док су га водили на „суђење“: „Врати мач свој на место његово; јер сви који се мача лате, од мача ће и погинути“ (Мт. 26:52). Зар мачеви данашњице, између осталог, нису речи, углавном празне и лажне, бачене у огромну празнину друштвених медија и интернета? Речи, наше речи, чекаће све нас на Судњем дану. Из тог разлога, када постимо, позвани смо да постимо чак и речима, које могу и хоће уништити више од мача.
Зато, љубљени, сви без изузетка послушајмо величанствене речи, односно позив Катихетске беседе Светог Јована Златоустог, Архиепископа Цариградског (+407), која се чита у свакој Православној цркви на крају Пасхалног јутрења и као припрема за Свету Пасхалну литургију, управо као отворени позив за учешће свих у Пасхалној литургији:
„Ако има побожних и љубе Бога,
нека уживају у овој лепој и блиставој гозби тријумфа! […]
Јер Господ, који је дарежљив,
прихватиће и последње и прве.
Он даје одмор онима који долазе у једанаести час
баш као што чини и онима који раде од првог часа.
Он је милостив према онима који долазе последњи,
чак и док се брине о првима.
Он даје дарове свакоме од њих […]
