The Synaxis of Serbian Saints Parish in Biddeford, Maine, solemnly celebrated Saint Sava—the greatest Serbian educator and the patron saint of Serbian schools and children—on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Every Sunday is a special day as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, and this joy was further enriched by the festive liturgical celebration of Saint Sava.

The day began with the Divine Liturgy, during which a large number of faithful gathered in the church. Protopresbyter-Stavrophor Ivan Marjanović, together with the kumovi Lazar and Novak Bajic and their parents, Zorica and Ninoslav, blessed and cut the traditional slavski kolach, with the participation of all the children present in the church. The kumovi for next year’s celebration will be the Bukarac family—Sanja, Sinisa, and their daughters Adrijana, Helena, and Emilija.

After the Liturgy, the children presented a program through song and recitations, bringing joy to everyone and solemnly honoring Saint Sava. The program opened with the hymn “Uskliknimo s ljubavlju”, followed by the songs “Mi smo deca s neba,” “Sveti Savo, mudra glavo,” “Ko udara tako pozno,” as well as recitations by the youngest participants. A particularly strong impression was made by the emotional performance of the song "Ja sam momče sa Kosova,” performed by brother and sister Marko and Sofija Marjanović, which deeply touched many of those present. The children filled the temple and the hearts of all those present with their effort, joy and sincerity.

In his inspired and meaningful sermon, Father Ivan emphasized the importance of children regularly attending church and the Divine Liturgy, noting that children who grow up within the liturgical life of the Church develop a sense of belonging, freedom, and spiritual security. Children who regularly come to church and attend religious education feel at home in the church space, experience the church as their own home, and joyfully participate in liturgical and parish life.

Today’s program was the most beautiful proof of this. It was especially joyful to see multiple generations of children—from those participating today to those who once stood in the same place as young children themselves. This connection between generations, the sharing of memories and experiences, testifies to the living and enduring spirit of our parish.

The success of this year’s celebration of Saint Sava is the result of the shared effort, responsibility, and love of the children, parents, godparents, and all parishioners who participated in the organization. After the program, a festive luncheon was held in the church hall, generously provided by the kumovi.

Christian love was present throughout the day—in children’s laughter, in the smiles of parents watching their children, and in the fellowship shared over conversation and the communal meal.

We pray that this celebration of Saint Sava remains a beautiful and lasting memory for all the children who participated and attended, and that Saint Sava continues to guide and bless our parish, our children, and their families.

Прослава Светог Саве у Бидефорду

Парохија Сабор Српских Светитеља, Бидефорд, Мејн, у недељу, 1. фебруара 2026. године, свечано је прославила Светог Саву, највећег српског просветитеља и заштитника српских школа и деце.

Свакa недеља је посебан дан јер славимо Васкрсење Господа нашег Исуса Христа, а овој радости придружило се и свечано литургијско прослављање Светог Саве.

Дан је започео Светом Литургијом, током које се у храму окупио велики број верника. Протојереј-ставрофор Иван Марјановић, заједно са кумовима Лазаром и Новаком Бајић са својим родитељима, Зорицом и Нинославом, освештао је и пререзао славски колач, уз учешће све деце присутне у храму. Кумови славе за наредну годину биће породица Букарац – Сања, Синиша и њихове ћерке Адријана, Хелена и Емилија.

Након Литургије, деца су одржала приредбу, песмом и рецитацијама донела су радост свима и свечано прославила Светог Саву. Програм је започет химном „Ускликнимо с љубављу“, након чега су уследиле песме „Ми смо деца с неба“, „Свети Саво, мудра главо“, „Ко удара тако позно“, као и рецитације најмлађих. Посебан утисак оставила је емотивна изведба песме „Ја сам момче са Косова“, у извођењу брата и сестре Марка и Софије Марјановић, која је многе присутне дубоко дирнула. Деца су својим трудом, радошћу и искреношћу испунила храм и срца свих присутних.

У својој надахнутој и садржајној проповеди, прота Иван је нагласио значај редовног доласка деце у цркву и на Свету Литургију, истичући да деца која одрастају у литургијском животу Цркве стичу осећај припадности, слободе и духовне сигурности. Деца која редовно долазе у храм и похађају веронауку осећају се природно у црквеном простору, доживљавају храм као свој дом и са радошћу учествују у богослужбеном и парохијском животу.

Данашња приредба била је најлепши доказ тога. Посебно је било радосно видети више генерација деце – од оних који данас учествују у програму до оних који су некада, као мали, стајали на истом месту. Та повезаност генерација, размена сећања и искустава, сведочи о живом и постојаном духу наше парохије.

Успех овогодишње прославе Светог Саве резултат је заједничког труда, одговорности и љубави деце, родитеља, кумова и свих парохијана који су учествовали у организацији. Након програма, у црквеној сали приређен је свећани ручак, који су великодушно обезбедили кумови славе.

Хришћанска љубав била је присутна током целог дана: у дечјем смеху, у осмесима родитеља док су посматрали своју децу, у заједничарењу уз разговор и трпезу.

Молимо се да ова прослава Светог Саве остане лепа и трајна успомена свој деци која су учествовала и присуствовала, те да Свети Сава и даље води и благосиља нашу парохију, нашу децу и њихове породице.
