The 53rd March for Life was held in Washington, DC on Friday, January 23rd, 2026. The March for Life is an annual event held on the National Mall protesting the tragic loss of millions of lives of unborn children since the abortion was legalized in the United States of America on January 22nd, 1973. The event always takes place on a Friday closest to January 22nd.
Through the years, March for Life has grown into a major event in America. Some sources claim that around 100 000 people take part in the event. In the last few years, the vast majority of attendees are markedly young people. The past speakers at the gathering include Presidents and Vice Presidents of the United States, Members of Congress, distinguished religious leaders, and celebrities.
This year, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Washington – New York and Eastern America has been chosen to lead the delegation of Hierarchs of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the United States of America at the March. He also received the distinction to be the religious leader who will open the rally with an address and a prayer. In a very poignant and inspiring prayer, His Grace offered a heartfelt supplication for the preservation of the sanctity of life, and that the most innocent and helpless babies in mother’s womb be protected. Many thousands of people enthusiastically welcomed His Grace’s address and prayer. Members of the U.S. Congress, religious leaders, and invited guests personally thanked our Bishop for his most moving words.
Following His Grace’s address, the Vice President of the United States of America, J.D. Vance, took the stage and addressed the gathering with a very meaningful and inspirational speech. It was received with great enthusiasm by everyone.
Serbs gathered in the Nation’s Capital were very proud to have such a powerful representation in Bishop Irinej and to have our Serbian Orthodox Church honored in such a meaningful way at such a noble event as is the March for Life. We look forward to many more meaningful activities in the future, in support and affirmation of our Serbian Orthodox Church and our Serbian people.

Honorable James David Vance, Vice President of these United States of America – in verity, One Nation under God!
Your Excellency, our host, Bishop James Conley,
Your Eminences, Your Excellencies, Your Graces, Esteemed Hierarchs,
Reverend and Venerable Clergy, Monastics and Religious,
Brothers and Sisters alike, Children!
As Christ our Lord has taught us, and truly it has come to pass and now is here, wherever two or three have gathered in His Name, He will be present (Matt 18:20). Assembled as such on this very day, here in the heart of our Nation, for the cause of life itself, let us heed the words of the Holy Fathers of the Church, who teach us, whenever we find ourselves confronted by personal and societal conflicts of heart and mind, emotion and intellect, to place our minds in our hearts in order to offer just and proper prayer, asking for strength to pursue justice, love and mercy, and to walk humbly (Micah 6:8), seeking God's assistance for fairness and truth, peace and healing.
Most beloved, let us, therefore, bow our heads, and lift up our hearts, collectively and individually, offering in earnest a Prayer for Life!
Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages without a mother, and incarnate in the flesh of a Mother without a father in time, having dwelt in the womb of the Ever Virgin Mary, Your Most Holy and Pure Mother, we pray You, look down upon us, who have gathered in prayer for those unborn and for the preservation of the life of innocents.
As your Mother, bearing You in her womb, became the image of the Burning Bush of Old, which, beheld by Moses, burned, yet was never consumed, so also ignite an inextinguishable fire in our hearts, that it may ever burn brightly and never be consumed, that we may offer constant pray, for those conceived in the warmth of their mother‘s womb, and for their mothers, that they may be enlightened with the wisdom and love needed to bear their children, give birth, and nurture them to know life and to worship You, the Author and Creator of Life.
Let them be born, so that they can breathe the air that we breathe. Let them gaze upon the beauty of creation and behold that which You have sealed with Your goodness. Let them hear the birds chirping. Let them sense the wind – Ruah – that breath manifesting the presence of the All Holy and Life-giving Spirit, that bears with it the scent of flowers and the fragrance of this world, of life itself. Let them live their lives, filled with inspiration and the joy of life, so that they may know that You are the only true God and in You is the Fountain of Life.
Again, we pray, Lord, for all mothers, who now bear these nascent lives, that they may truly understand that life is ordained for eternity. May they gain full awareness of that selfless, unrequited and foundational, maternal love—Στοργή (storgē)—tender, nurturing love. For this gift of love, is that of a mother for her child: unconditional, unrepayable, simply existing, which abides within every woman, be it in realization or potential.
Let not any unborn child be severed from such love in its mother’s life sustaining, nurturing body and tender heart. Let not the womb become a tomb! May Rachael never again weep without consolation, for her children are no more (Jer. 31:15). We also pray, as You are in verity the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25), for those mothers, who will be reconciled in eternity with their little angels, who now pray for their mothers and their salvation.
Lord, bless us all in our sacred mission on behalf of life, and bless this gathering in Your Holy Name. We pray You, richly pour forth Your blessings on our President and all who are in seats of civil authority. Remember our Vice President, who with conviction stands firmly with us this day, remember his cherished family and especially, his wife and our Second Lady, Usha, who now bears, to the immense joy of our Nation, their fourth child.
As we prepare to depart in peace, mindful of Your command to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect (Matt. 5:48), so also may we strive to be a perfect community of Your love. Grant us to reaffirm a society, whose culture is based on human dignity – the awareness of Your image in humankind and the realization of Your likeness – and, thereby, the dignity of life itself. For such a culture is a true communion of people, who act thoughtfully and strategically, placing their minds in their hearts, ever praising Your Most Honorable and Majestic Name, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

ЕПИСКОП ИРИНЕЈ ПРЕДВОДИО ПРАВОСЛАВНУ ДЕЛЕГАЦИЈУ И ОТВОРИО 53. ГОДИШЊИ МАРШ ЗА ЖИВОТ МОЛИТВОМ
У петак, 23. јануара 2026. године одржан је 53. Марш за живот. Марш се одржава једном годишње у центру Вашингтона као протест због многих милиона нерођене деце која су изгубила своје животе од 22. јануара 1973. године, када је легализован абортус у Сједињеним Америчким Државама. Скуп се одржава сваке године у петак који је најближи 22. јануару.
Током протеклих година, Марш за живот је прерастао у значајан протест у Америци. Према неким изворима, из године у годину око 100 000 људи узима учешће у протесту. У последњих неколико година приметно је да велику већину учесника сачињава омладина. У прошлости, говорници на овом догађају су били Председници и Потпредседници САД, чланови Конгреса, верски великодостојници и људи из јавног живота.
На овогодишњем Маршу, делегацију архијереја Сабрања Канонских Православних Епископа Сједињених Америчких Држава је предводио Његово Преосвештенство Епископ вашингтонско-њујоршки и источноамерички г. Иринеј. Такође, добио је ту част да буде великодостојник који ће отворити скуп поздравним речима и молитвом. Веома потресним и бираним речима, Владика Иринеј је узнео молитву за очување светиње живота, те да невина нејач у мајчиној утроби буде заштићена.
Сви окупљени су са великим одушевљењем прихватили речи Владике Иринеја и молитву коју је узнео. Присутни чланови Конгреса, верски великодостојници и многе званице су му лично изразили захвалност.
После Владике, на бину је изашао Потпредседник Сједињених Америчких Држава, Џ. Д. Венс, који се присутнима обратио бираним речима и инспиративним говором. Говор је био од свих ентузијастично прихваћен.
Срби, који су тога дана били у Вашингтону, а и широм Америке, могу бити поносни што су имали тако сјајног представника у лику Владике Иринеја и што је Српској Православној Цркви била указана огромна част на тако племенитом скупу као што је Марш за живот. Са нестрпљењем очекујемо наредне значајне активности, које ће подржати и афирмисати нашу Свету Цркву и наш српски народ у будућности.

Вашa Екселенцијо, наш домаћине, презувишени епископе Џејмсе Конли,
Ваша Високопреосвештенства, Ваше Ексленције, Ваша Преосвештенства, уважени Архијереји,
Преподобно и часно свештенство, монаштво и верни народе,
Браћо и сестре, и децо!
Како нас је Господ наш Исус Христос поучио — и како се то уистину остварило и сада је овде — где су двојица или тројица сабрани у Његово Име, Он је међу њима (Мт. 18, 20). Сабрани тако данас, овде у самом срцу наше Нације, ради самога живота, послушајмо речи светих Отаца Цркве, који нас уче да, кад год се нађемо суочени са личним и друштвеним сукобима срца и ума, осећања и разума, спустимо свој ум у срце, како бисмо узнели исправну и достојну молитву, молећи за снагу да тежимо правди, љубави и милосрђу, и да ходимо смирено (Мих. 6, 8иштући Божију помоћ за праведност и истину, мир и исцељење.
Најљубљенији, приклонимо зато главе и уздигнимо срца, заједно и појединачно, приносећи усрдну Молитву за Живот!
Господе Исусе Христе, Јединородни Сине Божији, Рођени од Оца пре свих векова без мајке, и Оваплоћени у времену без оца од Мајке, Који си обитавао у утроби Приснодјеве Марије, Твоје Пресвете и Пречисте Мајке — молимо Ти се, погледај на нас који смо се сабрали у молитви за нерођене и за очување живота невиних.
Као што је Твоја Мајка, носећи Те у својој утроби, постала образ старозаветне Неопалиме Купине, коју Мојсије виде — која гореше, а не сагореваше — тако и у нашим срцима распали неугасиви огањ, да он увек јарко гори и никада не сагори, да бисмо непрестано узносили молитву за оне који су зачети у топлини мајчинске утробе, и за њихове мајке, да буду просвећене мудрошћу и љубављу потребном да изнесу утробно своју децу, да их роде и одгаје, како би спознали живот и клањали се Теби, Творцу и Дародавцу Живота.
Нека се роде, да би могли дисати ваздух који и ми дишемо. Нека угледају лепоту творевине и виде оно што си Ти запечатио Својом добротом. Нека чују певање птица. Нека осете ветар — Руах [רוּחַ; rú-ah]— тај дах који пројављује присуство Свесветога и Животворнога Духа, који са собом носи мирис цвећа и благоухан овога света, самога живота. Нека проживе своје животе испуњени надахнућем и радошћу живљења, да би познали да си Ти једини истинити Бог и да је у Теби Извор Живота.
Још се молимо, Господе, за све мајке које сада у себи носе ове тек зачетe животе, да уистину разумеју да је живот одређен за вечност. Да задобију потпуно сазнање о оној несебичној, безусловној и темељној мајчинској љубави — στοργή (сторги; storgē) — нежној, негујућој љубави. Јер овај дар љубави јесте љубав мајке према детету: безусловна, ненадокнадива, једноставно постојећа, која обитава у свакој жени, било она остварена или остварива.
Нека ниједно нерођено дете не буде лишено такве љубави у животодавном, негујућем телу и нежном срцу своје мајке. Нека утроба не постане гроб! Да Рахиља више никада не плаче без утехе, јер јој деце нема (Јер. 31, 15). Такође се молимо, будући да си Ти уистину Васкрсење и Живот (Јн. 11, 25), за оне мајке које ће се у вечности састати са својим малим анђелима, који се сада моле за своје мајке и њихово спасење.
Господе, благослови све нас у нашој светој мисији у име живота, и благослови ово сабрање у Твоје Свето Име. Молимо Те, изобилно излиј Своје благослове на нашег Председника и на све који се налазе на положајима грађанске власти. Помени нашег Потпредседника, који данас непоколебљиво уз нас стоји, са убеђењем и решеношћу; помени његову вољену породицу и нарочито његову супругу и нашу Другу Даму, Ушу, која сада носи, на велику радост наше Нације, њихово четврто дете.
И док се спремамо да се разиђемо у миру, имајући на уму Твоју заповест да будемо савршени као што је савршен Отац наш Небески (Мт. 5, 48), подај да и ми тежимо да будемо савршена заједница Твоје љубави. Даруј нам да поново утемељимо друштво чија је култура заснована на људском достојанству — на свести о Твоме лику у човеку и остварењу Твога подобија— и тиме на достојанству самога живота. Јер таква култура јесте истинско заједничарење људи који промишљено и одговорно делују, полажући свој ум у срце, непрестано прослављајући Твоје Пречасно и Величанствено Име, Оца и Сина и Светога Духа.
