On Sunday, October 18, 2025, the feast day of the Holy Apostle Thomas, with the blessing and apostolic laying-on of hands of His Grace Irinej, Bishop of Washington-New York and Eastern America, Deacon Mirko Tomasevic was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The ordination took place at the Church of St. Demetrius the Great Martyr in Fairlawn, Ohio, a suburb of Akron, where Presbyter Mirko will be assigned as their new parish priest. Concelebrating with His Grace was Protopresbyter Milan Pajic, Dean of the Cleveland Deanery and Parish Priest at Akron’s sister church dedicated to the Holy Archangel Michael, with the assistance of Deacon Mihajlo Panko and Deacon Mirko Tomasevic.
The church was filled with faithful from the Cleveland and Akron areas, as well as from Chicago.
In a heartfelt acceptance homily read by the Deacon Mirko in response to the Bishop’s question: „My beloved spiritual son, why have you come and what do you seek from Our hands?", he expressed deep gratitude to His Grace Bishop Irinej and to the many faithful mentors who have guided him on his path toward the Holy Priesthood — including numerous clergy, hierarchs, and his family. The homily may be found in its entirety (here).
Following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, a banquet was served. The Circle of Serbian Sisters of St. Demetrius Church prepared a delicious meal attended by family, friends, and several local clergy.
To the newly-ordained Presbyter Mirko, to his family, and to all who gathered to participate in his ordination — may the Lord grant many years of peace, health, salvation, and growth in every good thing! Na mnogaja ljeta!
