Lorain Kolo Slava

One very warm November morning – Sunday, November 5, 2017 - the parishioners at Saint George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain, Ohio celebrated Divine Liturgy with Rev. Sinisa Hrvacevic. This day was the Kolo Srpski Sestara’s annual Slava – St. Petka - a tradition of our church.

The parishioners, friends and guests continued the day by meeting in the church hall for the blessing of the Slavski Kolach prepared by our Kolo President, Kathy Fritsch, and the Koljivo (wheat) by Popadija Jovana for all departed sisters. The banquet of wonderful food then began.

A welcome by the Co-President of the church, Mitchell P. Zunich, and the President of the Kolo, Kathy Fritsch, was received by all. Kathy introduced the Kuma of this special event - Kelly D’Agnese. She told of her maternal grandmother, Daisy Matic, and how she was taught our traditions and culture. She was presented with a beautiful arrangement of flowers.

Father Sinisa concluded the program by thanking the cooks and workers and all in attendance at the banquet. He stated we need to preserve our culture and carry on our traditions.
