Hightest Honors, Love and Recognition in Lackawanna

Lackawanna, NY - His Grace Bishop Dr.MITROPHAN, Diocesan Bishop of Eastern America, recently traveled to St. Stephen Serbian Orthodox Church in Lackawanna, New York. This was a very special visit on Saturday and Sunday August 22-23, 2015.

His Grace came to serve, visit and be with Very Reverend Stavrophor Rastko and Protinica Trbuhovich and with the parishioners of St. Stephen Serbian Orthodox Church. Vespers was served on Saturday and Divine Liturgy on Sunday.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning, His Grace spoke glowingly of the long and extensive Christian service and work of Protopresbyter Stavrophor Rastko and Protinica Victoria.

The Holy Synod of the Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church approved the recommendation of Bishop MITROPHAN to award the Order of St. Sava to Very Reverend Stavrophor and Protinica Victoria Trbuhovich.  His Grace made the special award presentation during this visit.

This highest level of recognition given to the Trbuhovich Family was official and formal recognition by the Serbian Orthodox Church. Father Rastko and Protinica Victoria’s son Basil, daughter Sarah and grandchildren Tess  and Nathan were present and shared in the honor.

The Ristich Family of blessed memory from St.Stephen Serbian Orthodox  Church was also honored with the Order of St.Sava. The Ristich’s contributed significantly to the St. Stephen Church, to St.Sava School of Theology in Libertyville, Illinois and to the St.Sava Church on Vracar.

His Grace Bishop Dr.MITROPHAN recognized Mr.Savo Cugalj for his efforts with the Ristich Family in arranging for their contributions. His Grace highlighted the Christian example set by the Ristich’s.

The cumulative impact of the contributions of Father Rastko and Protinica Victoria and of the +Ristich’s is far-reaching and immeasurable. Christian love for God’s Holy Church is best known to God.

The Trbuhovich’s and Ristich’s love for God and God’s Holy Church has been manifested in their homes, in the parish and well-beyond.. Their love for God will continue to bear good and much fruit in the innumerable lives of others.

The entire parish of St.Stephen Serbian Orthodox Church in Lackwanna, New York shared in this day of recognition and honor. The parish has been multiply blessed by the Trbuhovich’s and Ristich’s.

 In recognition and appreciation of His Grace’s Archpastoral visit, the St.Stephen Serbian Orthodox Church held a dinner prepared by the Kolo Srpski Sestara. Sophie Wuslich, Parish Executive Board President, coordinated the dinner proceedings. His Grace spoke as Archpastor with the parishioners in attendance. 

This was a day of highest honor and exemplification of Christian love.
